ON OCTOBER 15, 1954 HURRICANE HAZEL MADE LANDFALL NEAR
MYRTLE BEACH, SOUTH CAROLINA AS CATEGORY 4 HURRICANE.
HAZEL ACCELERATED NORTH INTO CENTRAL PENNSYLVANIA AT
60 MILES PER HOUR AND BROUGHT SUSTAINED WINDS OF 70 TO
80 MPH TO THE AREA. BINGHAMTON, NEW YORK RECORDED
SUSTAINED WINDS OF 72 MPH. WIND GUSTS TO 100 MPH WERE
RECORDED ACROSS UPSTATE NEW YORK. SHE CONTINUED NORTH
INTO CANADA CAUSING MAJOR FLOODING AND WIND DAMAGE.
